One of our Missional Communities, TCP (Tollcross Community Pastors) headed up a team of volunteers manning the BVC stall at the Meadows Festival on Saturday 7 June. Our aim was to bless the community by offering free biscuit decorating for children; free hugs; balloon models and Beat the Goalie. This event, which attracts thousands of people every year, was an ideal day way God’s love in action as we had conversations with individuals and families throughout the day. In an age when people don’t often get something for nothing people were grateful for our ‘freebies’ and we brought smiles to many faces.
- One family commented that they had only been there a short time and had already spent a lot of money, so they were grateful that the children could be occupied with a free event.
- One lady asked if someone could visit her sister in hospital – details have been passed to our Pastoral Care team.
- One Australian girl had one of the items on her ‘bucket list’ ticked off as she received a free hug.
The hope is that people will know us for being more than the just the building on the Links, but as people who love God and who have a heart to serve the local community.
