Football: Crisp Win For Gorgie Kicks Off 2016

Gorgie 5 Barclay Viewforth United 2

A frosty winters morning at Peffermill set the scene for this first Barclay match of 2016 – a Norrie Wilson Cup tie against Gorgie on Saturday 16th.

An early strike from Gorgie gave them the advantage. For much of the first half Barclay pressed for an equaliser, enjoying plenty of possesion and chances on goal.

The game continued with tit-for-tat scoring, until towards the end, when Gorgie began to build a comfortable lead.

As has been the case so often this season, Barclay struggled towards the end, conceding late goals and leading to an unflattering scoreline.

So it was ultimately a 5:2 defeat, but good to be up and running on a day when most teams were unable to play (and needing a catch up in midweek fixtures). Also good to hear that all five subs had a run out including the odd debutant.
