BVC Vine Trust Tanzania Team Update
The team has now grown to 22 members, with people joining us from different parts of the country. It would be fair to say that everyone is looking forward to the challenges ahead in July and the opportunity to help improve the lives of families by building new homes.
Thank you to everyone who supported the recent Pub Quiz at the Golf Tavern in February. The grand sum of £752 was raised. This money has gone onto our fund-raising page, with all proceeds being used to pay for the materials the team will use to build 2 or 3 family homes in July this year.
At the start of February we were given some information about 2 of the families we will be building homes for. The following is the information received about one boy and his carer.
Delta Makisa and Nickson
In the Sango region of Kilimanjaro, Delta Makisa looks ager a young boy called Nickson.
Life has not been easy for Nickson. With his mother passing away, and having been abandoned by his father, Nickson is dependent on the support and care given by Delta. A few years ago he also suffered a severe burn injury and is now attending a plastic surgery clinic to help his rehabilitation.
Delta does what she can to support Nickson, but living in a simple shelter with one wall made from tins and banana leaves, life is a daily challenge for them both.
Our team of volunteers will be working alongside TAWREF (Tanzanian Women’s Research Foundation) to provide a new home for Nickson, building not just a safe place for him to live with Delta, but also helping to build his confidence and self worth as he seeks to overcome life’s challenges.
Every penny we raise will be used to bring hope and a future to Nickson. Thank you for helping us to do this.
