Football: Barclay Exit Cup Despite Improvements

Charlotte Chapel 3 Barclay Viewforth United 0

It was a considerably more poised performance on Saturday’s second leg Buckstone Roofing Cup match at South Gyle. In dreich and overcast conditions Barcay had the better of the opening exchanges before a stray defensive pass gifted Charlotte Chapel centre forward Iain McCalman a well executed mid distance lob over keeper Stan Smith.

Barclay rarely threatened the Chapel goal and in the first half Smith made some fine saves. There was still a strong sense at half time that a result was feasible albeit Chapel still felt like the more likely outfit to score a second.

This transpired to be the case early in the second period, shortly followed by a soft third that put the match beyond BVU. After that point it must be said that Chapel were profligate with some of their chances, a close in almost open goal miss by Chapel left winger, Brad, being the most extreme example.

The final score was 3:0 and Chapel go into next week’s tie agains Loanhead Parish Church.

Training will be at Forthview Primary this coming Thursday. The session starts at 7pm and will last until 9pm. New players are always welcome.

Next match: Saturday November 7th at Colinton Mains against AC Oxgangs. The following week Barclay host White Lightening at South Gyle.
